Color Combinations in Interior Design

Color holds the remarkable ability to influence the mood, atmosphere and energy of an interior space - be it a bedroom, office or dining room. When you are combining different colors, however, the way that they interact with one another can either amplify or soften the energy of a room.

Interior designers will agree that strategic color selection is important, but that process can pose challenges. Especially when you are working with clients who have their own preferences and expectations, choosing and evaluating the right color combination for a project can be tedious.

Today we will talk about color theory, using color boards and mockups, the context and function of a space, as well as experimentation when it comes evaluating color combinations in an interior space. These insights are meant to aid you in creating both beautiful and practical color schemes for your design projects!

Color Theory

Simply put, color theory is both a science and art that helps explain how people see color, as well as how colors mix, match or contrast each other. A large part of color theory is based on the color wheel which displays primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. Below is an image of a color wheel:
